Lacking longevity does matter, regardless of how you spin it. Supporting a console for 10 years does not mean releasing one console every day 10 years, it literally means supporting it through its life time. Take the PS2 for example, games are still being released but the well will soon run dry. I'm positive a couple years from now Sony will introduce another Playstation SKU, but will still support the PS3 its final years.
